Rules
The First Annual 'Rhode Worthy Cup' is a celebration of the quality and diversity of Rhode Island's finely-crafted beverages. The competition is open only to beverages produced in the state. This includes companies outside of Rhode Island that have their products manufactured by a contract facility within the state, and Rhode Island companies that have their original recipes contract-manufactured outside of the state.
NOTE: The 2024 Competition will only feature beers, ciders, and seltzers/FMBs. Future years will also include wines, spirits, and meads.
Entries will be classified and judged according to the 2023 Brewers Association Style Guidelines. Many require the listing of special ingredients or flavorings, but NO RECIPES are ever required. Please include any potential allergens as needed.
Proceeds from this event will benefit the RIDEA Scholarship whose mission is to promote a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion in the RI beverage industry.
Professional, helpful, unbiased judging of all entries is the primary goal of our event. Qualified judges will evaluate and score each entry using detailed, industry-standard sensory analysis forms. All entrants will be able to easily view their digital scoresheets soon after all judging has been completed.
RWC Judges will be a combination of Industry Media, BJCP-ranked judges, Industry Professionals, Cicerones, and others with advanced sensory training. The names, qualifications, and contact information for each judge will appear on every scoresheet, helping to ensure high-quality, professional feedback. Once all entries have been judged, the winners will be announced and scoresheets made available for entrants to download for reference.
The 2024 Rhode Worthy Cup will be held the day before the Rhode Island Breweres Conference and two days before the Ocean State Brewers Festival. RWC attendees who wish to take advantage of these events will need to register for them separately using the links above.
Interested judges and other volunteers, please see 'Volunteer Information' below.
All entry packages become the property of the Rhode Worthy Cup and will not be returned to entrants.

Entry Acceptance Rules
Number of Bottles Required Per Entry: 4
The 2024 Rhode Worthy Cup is open only to beverages produced in the state. This includes companies outside of Rhode Island that have their products manufactured by a contract facility within the state, and Rhode Island companies that have their original recipes contract-manufactured outside of the state. All entries must be available for sale to the public. Individual beers may only be entered in one category. Multiple distinct entries per category are allowed.
Entry packaging should be smaller formats whenever possible, with a minimum of four of each entry (maximum of six). 12-16 oz. bottles or cans are preferred, but larger formats and crowlers will be accepted. Entries will be received several days in advance of judging and will be kept refrigerated.
Judging categories may be combined based upon the diversity and total number of entries and available judges. The competition organizers reserve the right to combine similar styles for judging and to restructure awards as needed depending upon the variety, quantity, and quality of entries.
System-generated entry labels are printed from this website, and must be securely attached to all entries. Packing tape is generally considered the best method, since these labels will not need to be removed prior to judging. No hand-written entry labels are allowed - if you are having trouble printing labels, please ensure that you have checked the box next to each entry for which you are printing. If still having difficulty, contact the organizer.
All samples will be pre-poured by our stewarding staff in a secure area before being brought to the judges' tables, so there is no need to remove or obscure product labels or identifying marks.
Please complete the entry information carefully. It is the entrant's responsibility to ensure that each entry is properly labeled and entered in the correct category. Be meticulous about noting any special ingredients or required style information, such as 'Gooseberry' or 'Rouse before pouring'. Failure to note such specifications may impact the judges' scoring of your entry. Do not include recipes or extraneous information that may reveal the entry's identity.
All entries will be judged blind, with first, second, and third place awards in every judged category, or as deemed appropriate by the judges. Professional brewer entrants may also serve as judges, but the system will prevent any entrant from judging any category for which their company has submitted an entry.
Every sample will be stored and served at the appropriate temperature for its style. Judging categories may be grouped or combined based upon the quantity and types of entries received and the number of available judges.
